How we solved LKAB’s issue with feed chutes – remote-controlled lifting trolley
A high-risk task. LKAB faced a hazardous challenge when handling feed chutes for mills. Forklifts, not designed for the task, were used to lift and transport the chutes. This created a significant risk of injury, with several near-accidents occurring.
Site visit and analysis. We visited the facility to observe the workflow firsthand. By closely monitoring the staff’s operations, we identified critical points and pinpointed the main safety risks.
Concept and solution. Our team of experts developed a solution – a remote-controlled hydraulic lifting trolley. This trolley was specifically designed to maneuver under the chutes, lift them, and transport them safely without exposing personnel to danger.
Presentation and approval. We presented the lifting trolley’s design to LKAB’s management, who recognised its potential to both enhance safety and streamline workflow. A cost proposal was drafted, and after approval, a contract was signed.
Manufacturing and delivery. The lifting trolley was built and customised to meet LKAB’s specific needs. Upon completion, it was delivered and installed at the site.
Results – enhanced safety and efficiency. With the new remote-controlled lifting trolley, feed chutes can now be handled safely without forklifts. The work environment is significantly safer, and the risk of accidents has been drastically reduced.
