Maintaining ore wagons was a major challenge for LKAB. Removing the coupling pins could take up to a week, even when using sledgehammers, torches, and presses. The process was physically demanding, often causing repetitive strain injuries and making staff retention difficult.

Underground site visit.We ventured down into the facility to observe the maintenance process on site. It was clear that the manual handling of coupling pins was both inefficient and hazardous.

Development of a new solution.
Our experts engineered a hydraulic pin knocker capable of dislodging even the most stubborn pins in mere seconds—eliminating physical strain on workers.

Presentation and contract.
We showcased the pin knocker to LKAB’s management, demonstrating how it would revolutionise maintenance work. After receiving approval, a contract was drawn up, and production commenced.

Delivery and training.
The pin knocker was delivered and installed underground. Staff were trained in its operation to ensure optimal efficiency.

Today, maintenance tasks are significantly faster and less strenuous. Pins can be removed in seconds, reducing downtime and minimising the risk of workplace injuries. Productivity has increased, and the work environment has vastly improved.
